Archiving and Copyright Transfer of Presented Work
As IEEE and the MEMS Technical Community are our sponsors for the conference, all accepted work will be included in the technical digest distributed to attendees and archived within IEEE Xplore shortly after the completion of the conference. Open Poster presentations are not included in the archiving or copyright for this conference.
All accepted papers will need to adhere to the Copyright Law and must submit a completed Copyright Form. The Copyright Law requires that IEEE conferences that publish their papers in the United States obtain copyright transfers from authors prior to publication. Failure to complete the copyright will preclude publication and presentation of your work. More information about submitting your copyright to IEEE will be communicated to contact authors at the time of acceptance.
Introduction to the "Conference-to-Journal Track"
In celebration of the 40th anniversary of the MEMS conference, we are pleased to introduce a new, streamlined Conference-to-Journal Track. The purpose of this track is to provide a direct pathway for select 4-page manuscripts to be considered for formal journal publication without requiring separate, duplicative submission efforts from authors.
Conference Technical Digest and Xplore
All accepted presentations will require a manuscript that will be published in the technical digest that is distributed to all attendees of the MEMS 2027 Conference. This does not apply to Open Posters if an Open Poster Submission were to become available.
All manuscripts will appear in IEEE Xplore, either with "Traditional Publishing Option" (requires authors to transfer copyright to IEEE) or Open Access Publishing Option (Authors provide IEEE with a choice to publish openly on IEEE Xplore (CCBY or CCBY-NC-ND)) for a $800 fee paid by authors. The $800 only applies to those wanting Open Access.
Submission Pathways and Requirements
Following the initial 2-page abstract submission and subsequent TPC review, accepted authors will submit a 4-page full manuscript. Based on the evaluation and the preferences indicated by the authors, papers will proceed through one of three specific publishing pathways:

- Cost: Free (No Article Processing Charge; covered by IEEE).
- IEEE Xplore: Will appear in IEEE Xplore with standard IEEE copyright.
- Format: 4-page manuscript.
- Review Process: Joint TPC and MINE editorial co-reviews, author revisions, and a final co-decision. This process is iterative and will repeat as required by the editors.
- Selection Limitation: This pathway is highly competitive, as the TPC will select only 30 papers total for final publication under this track.
- Author Action Required: Authors must explicitly opt-in during the acceptance process, confirming their agreement to be considered for this specific pathway and acknowledging the associated author-funded APC fees.
- Cost & Conditions: This track requires an Article Processing Charge (APC) of $1895 paid by the authors, upon acceptance as well as $800 for IEEE Open Access (CCBY).
- IEEE Xplore: Will appear in IEEE Xplore with Open Access (CCBY) - $800 fee applies.
- Format: Expanded to a 5+ page manuscript.
- Review Process: Joint TPC and JMEMS editorial co-reviews. Upon receiving a favorable co-decision, authors will be required to expand their initial 4-page conference paper into a comprehensive 5+ page journal article during the revision phase.
- Cost: Free (No Article Processing Charge from JMEMS - $800 paid by Author for IEEE Open Access (CCBY)) and Article Processing Charge (APC) covered by IEEE.
- IEEE Xplore: Will appear in IEEE Xplore with Open Access (CCBY) - $800 fee applies.
